LTL Carriers Report Decline in Tonnage in May
June 10, 2025

Three large transportation companies – Old Dominion Freight Line, Saia and XPO – faced a decrease in traffic volumes in May.
The preliminary results of the second quarter indicate that, despite the traditional recovery during this period, the freight transportation market remains stagnant.
Old Dominion reported a 2.5% decrease in tonnage compared to the same period last year, Saia – 3.4%, and XPO – 2.2%. These figures indicate a general negative trend in the industry.
Experts explain the current situation by an excess of transport capacity and insufficient demand for cargo transportation. In response, companies are reviewing their strategy, focusing on the most profitable routes to compensate for the decline in volumes.
