West Virginia has expanded its "Give Way" Law to include service vehicles and any stationary vehicles with warning lights. It comes into force on July 11, 2025.

These changes, covering emergency alarms and reflective signs, are aimed at improving the safety of all road users.

Several other states, including Kansas, California, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, and Ohio, are also considering or have recently implemented similar amendments to their Give Way laws.

These changes often apply to any stopped vehicle displaying emergency lights, reflecting a general trend towards improving the safety of road workers and motorists.

The rationale for these extensions is the desire to improve road safety, given that over the past 10 years, about 3,500 people have died in accidents while out of service vehicles.
